Truly, it has already been over one month since we survived from the course of Financial Analysis. The experience did leave an impressive impact in my mind.
There was no one late to attend the class during those five learning days. One of us was even from Taichung every early morning. There was no internet allowed, and even seldom private conversation, except discussion, in the class. Everybody was so concentrating on listening and calculating. But, how to treat the mobile calls, for most of the students are from real estate industry? Our instructor, Carmela, gave her way to treat this kind mobile violation in the class. She said ‘If I just set a penalty of fine for each mobile ringing in the class, most of students would rather pay a bill in advance and excuse that he/she is dealing with a big case these days, and need to answer the phone on the going.” Hence, a new strategy of her is to ask those violating the rule to sing a song for each mobile ringing. A penalty like that curbed the disturbing calls happening almost totally. However, it still happened once in our class. One of our classmates ran out from classroom to get a mobile call. When he returned, we asked him to sing a song and he accepted it happily and willingly, because he just settled down a deal worthy of NTD 200 million.
Frankly speaking, we felt bored for first 3-days-courses. We just followed what the instructors Carmela and Michael taught us, but didn’t know clearly how to use what we had learned in reality until the last 2nd day. It was like a magic, and as Carmela had predicted that the light bulb in our mind would be turned on in the afternoon on the 4th day. It happened, and we suddenly saw the light on when Carmela concluded all of what we had learned in past 4 days into a real cases study.
Just like there was an already tight schedule in day time, there came always with homework to do after the class. One of the evenings at the time close to the ending of the day when everybody was exhausted enough, Carmela announced “please be patient. After I write down the homework of tonight on the board, you could leave to take a rest”. How to “take a rest” with so much homework? Carmela simply said “you may take 5 minutes rest at home, 2 minutes for a quick dinner, and 3 minutes for shower”. It really made everybody faint at spot.
The 5th day was the D-day for exam. There would be 4 hours maximum for the exam. We can refer to any material available to answer the questions, but it did not make thing get simpler or easier. The handout is a heavy book with hundreds of pages. You even don’t know which page you should refer to, if you are not comprehensive the whole study thoroughly. Everyone made the handout full of stickers, which means we are really studying very hard. There was only sound from turning pages hither and thither. After fighting for more than 3 hours, the course was finished finally. How wonderful it was!
Before the course, I didn’t know what was “difficulty in sleeping” could be. During these 5 days, I kept on doing homework every night till I was exhausted, but I could not fall asleep till dawn, because my brain was still running when I was in bed.
Right after the exam, we went to a karaoke to spend a happy time together to release ourselves from a severe test. It’s so great that I completed the 1st phase finally and I am very eager to apply what I have learned from course C101 already.
