Does any one know which countries had been called “Asian Tigers”
Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan
But not everybody knows there are other 4 “Junior Tigers” in Asia.
Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and The Philippines.
How about the golden BRIC? Brazil, Russia, India and China.
Do we forget something, or to be more precise, do we ignore some country in the above list?
Yes, while the whole world pays special attention to the shinning BRIC, they forget unconsciously that there is a new tiger rising in Asia. That’s Vietnam
In the entire Southeast Asia, Vietnam has recorded the fastest economic development with a GNP growth by 7.24% in 2003, 7.7% in 2004 and 8.4% in 2005, and it would be better in 2006, not too much next to the achievements of China in the past 3 to 4 years, and ahead of all the other countries in the world.
All these facts and figures hint that Vietnam is surely one of the very No. 1 players in the Southeast Asia in terms of economic development.
2006 was a special year to Vietnam. After Vietnam joined WTO and held APEC meeting in November last year, it seems Vietnam is announcing to the world that it is saying goodbye to the suffering past and has walked out to link itself with the international society.
There have been more and more foreign investors coming and jumping into the moving stream of Vietnam economics, especially in the late 2 years. There are inevitably many investors from Taiwan. We can see it from numerous examples.
As a matter of fact, I just completed a business trip to HCMC, whose former name was Saigon, and Hanoi where I had stayed for two weeks. One night in Hanoi, in a big garden Vietnamese style, traditional BBQ restaurant, I saw a Taiwanese customer singing karaoka on the stage. When he sang “愛拼才會赢”, there was echo from different tables every corner of the garden singing together “愛拼~~才會赢”.
In Hanoi, I went with COO of a leading Electronics group to meet a provincial governor, and heard from him that Mr. 郭台銘 would pay a visit to their Prime Minister one week later. Last week, we heard that 郭台銘 has decided to invest 1.5 billion US dollars in Vietnam after only once visit. Furthermore, Intel has already started its billion US dollar investment in Vietnam.
It proves that there have been not only traditional industries entering into Vietnam, but also high-tech investors on the road to the country.
Some of you might have already noticed that there are increasing reports about Vietnam through TV program, newspaper and magazine lately. Even I myself have been interviewed twice by Commercial Times in past 2 years about Vietnam.
Except those remarkable progress in economics, there are other factors which make investors from Taiwan feel that they are not away from home too far.
1. They use lunar calendar as well. Vietnamese also celebrate lunar new year, Dragon Boat festival and eat moon cake, with similar culture like Taiwan
2. One of the traditional Vietnamese food is Phu 河粉. It’s similar to our noodle and 粉條
3. They say “Thank you” sounds “感恩”, pronounced similarly to what we say “感恩”
One more attraction to Taiwanese men but threaten to Taiwanese women is the Vietnamese girl carries always a very sweet smile and of sexy shape, plus they are very diligent.
